Description

Assign a research trace sample under supplied flow sign and zero-boundary conventions.

Physiological models use measured signals, reference levels, rates, and physical balances. A content difference, normalized phase, or energy term depends on its unit system and model assumptions. Supplied coefficients and annotations define the calculation but do not establish biological plausibility or measurement accuracy.

Assign a research trace sample under supplied flow sign and zero-boundary conventions.

When to use this tool

Use Respiratory Zero Flow Boundary when you need this explicit signal, content, phase, flow, or physical-balance term under compatible supplied units.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter flow, zeroBelongsToInspiration, positiveIsInspiration. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read phase. Use the output convention below.

At flow zero choose inspiration if zeroBelongsToInspiration, otherwise expiration. At nonzero flow choose inspiration when the sign matches positiveIsInspiration and expiration otherwise.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Flow sign and zero ownership are explicit conventions, with exact zero comparison and no noise tolerance. The tool does not detect respiratory cycles, filter signals, or infer a clinical breathing state.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Choose a physiological and measurement model suited to the signal or experiment. Verify coefficients, unit conversions, baseline definitions, and sampling support before combining local terms.
