Description

Ideal fully developed laminar Newtonian circular-tube wall shear-rate approximation, preserving signed flow and coherent units.

Physiological models use measured signals, reference levels, rates, and physical balances. A content difference, normalized phase, or energy term depends on its unit system and model assumptions. Supplied coefficients and annotations define the calculation but do not establish biological plausibility or measurement accuracy.

Ideal fully developed laminar Newtonian circular-tube wall shear-rate approximation, preserving signed flow and coherent units.

When to use this tool

Use Blood Flow Shear Rate Radius Factor when you need this explicit signal, content, phase, flow, or physical-balance term under compatible supplied units.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter flowVolumePerSecond, radius. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read meanVelocity, wallShearRate. Use the output convention below.

For positive radius return meanVelocity=flowVolumePerSecond/(pi*radius^2) and wallShearRate=4*flowVolumePerSecond/(pi*radius^3).1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
flowVolumePerSecondSigned volumetric flow per second; volume unit must match radius cubed.Required. Finite number.
radiusRadiusRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
meanVelocityMean VelocityRequired. Finite number.
wallShearRateWall Shear RateRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Volume units must be the cube of the radius length unit; outputs then use length per second and inverse seconds. Signed flow is allowed. The shear relation assumes ideal fully developed laminar flow in a circular tube, without validating vascular geometry or clinical applicability.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Choose a physiological and measurement model suited to the signal or experiment. Verify coefficients, unit conversions, baseline definitions, and sampling support before combining local terms.
