Description
Wrap elapsed time into a caller-supplied zeitgeber cycle.
Physiological signals have explicit sampling intervals, polarity, time origins and cycle conventions. One cycle period differs from a robust averaged rate, and wrapped external-clock phase differs from measured biological phase. Supplied markers and gas-reference labels organize data without detecting events or establishing normal physiology.
Wrap elapsed time into a caller-supplied zeitgeber cycle.
When to use this tool
Use Circadian Zeitgeber Hour Label when you already have elapsedHours, suppliedCycleHours and need to wrap elapsed time into a caller-supplied zeitgeber cycle.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter elapsedHours, suppliedCycleHours. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read phaseHours, cycleIndex. Use the output convention below.
Require cycleHours>0; cycleIndex=floor(elapsed/cycle), phase=elapsed modulo cycle adjusted into [0,cycle).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| elapsedHours | Elapsed Hours | Required. Finite number. |
| suppliedCycleHours | Supplied Cycle Hours | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| phaseHours | Phase Hours | Required. Finite number. |
| cycleIndex | Floor quotient; negative elapsed time can have a negative cycle index. | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The cycle length and origin are supplied; a wrapped phase does not estimate biological circadian phase or prescribe light exposure.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect the original signal, event markers and acquisition clock when deriving physiological quantities. Use an appropriate multi-cycle or time-varying analysis when a single supplied interval, fixed sampling rate or wrapped external-time phase is insufficient.
