Wave Phase At Supplied Origin

Evaluate an explicit traveling-wave phase under the supplied k*x-omega*t+phase convention without wrapping.

Description

Calculate a plane-wave phase under an explicit origin convention.

Physical quantities require compatible units, coordinate directions, reference origins and model assumptions. Mass and weight, angular and cyclic frequency, particle velocity and wave speed are distinct quantities. Ideal single-axis, linear-spring and constant-torque terms describe supplied models rather than identify real material behavior or safe operating limits.

Calculate a plane-wave phase under an explicit origin convention.

When to use this tool

Use Wave Phase At Supplied Origin when you already have waveNumberRadiansPerMeter, angularFrequencyRadiansPerSecond, positionMeters, timeSeconds, suppliedPhaseRadians and need to calculate a plane-wave phase under an explicit origin convention.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter waveNumberRadiansPerMeter, angularFrequencyRadiansPerSecond, positionMeters, timeSeconds, suppliedPhaseRadians. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read phaseRadians. Use the output convention below.

Return k*x-omega*t+suppliedPhaseRadians, with k in rad/m, x in m, omega in rad/s and time in s.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
waveNumberRadiansPerMeterAngular wavenumber k in rad/m, not cycles per metre.Required. Finite number.
angularFrequencyRadiansPerSecondAngular frequency omega in rad/s, not cyclic frequency Hz.Required. Finite number.
positionMetersPosition MetersRequired. Finite number.
timeSecondsTime SecondsRequired. Finite number.
suppliedPhaseRadiansSupplied Phase RadiansRequired. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
phaseRadiansPhase RadiansRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • The phase is unwrapped and uses the stated propagation sign; no wavefield, frequency, medium or origin is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the full force, energy or wave model with compatible reference frames and units for a physical prediction. Include changing loads, material behavior and losses when the ideal constant-parameter term no longer represents the system.
