Description

For positive sampleMass, nonnegative crucibleMass, crucibleAshMass>=crucibleMass, and moistureFraction in [0,1), return ashMass=crucibleAshMass-crucibleMass, asReceivedFraction=ashMass/sampleMass, and dryFraction=ashMass/(sampleMass*(1-moistureFraction)).

Botanical laboratory records distinguish wet mass, dry matter, carriers, extract mass, and assay response. A fraction or reference comparison depends on the chosen material basis and supplied analytical method. Voucher and monograph metadata help identify records but do not themselves authenticate a specimen or establish product quality.

For positive sampleMass, nonnegative crucibleMass, crucibleAshMass>=crucibleMass, and moistureFraction in [0,1), return ashMass=crucibleAshMass-crucibleMass, asReceivedFraction=ashMass/sampleMass, and dryFraction=ashMass/(sampleMass*(1-moistureFraction)).

When to use this tool

Use Pharmacognosy Ash Value Tare Factor when you need this mass-basis, assay-response, extraction, or source-record calculation for supplied laboratory data.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter crucibleMass, crucibleAshMass, sampleMass, moistureFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read ashMass, asReceivedFraction, dryFraction. Use the output convention below.

For positive sampleMass, nonnegative crucibleMass, crucibleAshMass>=crucibleMass, and moistureFraction in [0,1), return ashMass=crucibleAshMass-crucibleMass, asReceivedFraction=ashMass/sampleMass, and dryFraction=ashMass/(sampleMass*(1-moistureFraction)).1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Masses need one unit and moisture is a wet-basis fraction. Ash is not capped by sample mass; combustion protocol, contamination, product identity, and compendial compliance are not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the appropriate authenticated reference material, analytical protocol, and source records for a full laboratory assessment. Verify moisture basis, response factors, and extract/carrier definitions before comparing results.
