Periodontal Probe Calibration Delta

Compare explicit probe indication and reference lengths without certifying calibration or selecting a tolerance.

Description

Calculate a probe indication error and its opposite additive correction.

Periodontal charts distinguish planned, excluded and unmeasured sites, anatomical ordering, reference landmarks and sign conventions. An unassessed site differs from a recorded negative finding, and an apical-positive coordinate needs its stated reference. These local records and corrections do not produce an examination, disease grade or treatment recommendation.

Calculate a probe indication error and its opposite additive correction.

When to use this tool

Use Periodontal Probe Calibration Delta when you already have indicatedLength, referenceLength and need to calculate a probe indication error and its opposite additive correction.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter indicatedLength, referenceLength. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read indicationError, additiveCorrection. Use the output convention below.

Require nonnegative indicated/reference lengths; error=indicated-reference and correction=reference-indicated.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
indicatedLengthIndicated LengthRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
referenceLengthReference LengthRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
indicationErrorIndication ErrorRequired. Finite number.
additiveCorrectionReference-indicated, the negative of indicationError.Required. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • This is one supplied calibration-point difference, not a verified calibration curve or acceptable measurement error.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Review the source chart's site order, landmark and sign convention before combining measurements. Apply the full documented examination and scoring method for an assessment; a site label, correction delta or recorded bleeding flag is only one record component.
