Description

Audit an explicit bench probe reading against a supplied increment grid.

Dental research records distinguish teeth, surfaces, sites, observations, exclusions, and reporting bases. Measurement resolution and missing observations affect interpretation differently. A chart token, site share, or measurement envelope can check supplied data without establishing a clinical finding.

Audit an explicit bench probe reading against a supplied increment grid.

When to use this tool

Use Periodontal Bench Probe Increment Check when you need this site-record, denominator, label, image-scale, or measurement component for supplied research data.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter reading, zero, increment, tolerance. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read nearestIndex, reconstructed, residual, aligned. Inspect aligned before interpreting the associated values.

For positive increment and nonnegative tolerance return nearestIndex=round((reading-zero)/increment), reconstructed=zero+nearestIndex*increment, residual=reading-zero-nearestIndex*increment, and aligned=(abs(residual)<=tolerance).1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Reading, zero, increment, and tolerance need one length unit. JavaScript nearest rounding sends exact half steps toward positive infinity; no calibration is inferred and alignment is not a clinical measurement-validity test.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use the intended examination or measurement protocol with verified site identities and source records. Broader interpretation requires actual observations and appropriate measurement properties beyond one token or ratio.
