Think Pair Share Timeline
Schedule think, pair, and share phases with pair count.
Description
Think-pair-share planning places three phases sequentially on a relative-minute timeline.
Think-pair-share planning places three phases sequentially on a relative-minute timeline. Participant count adds a simple grouping estimate.1
Schedule think, pair, and share phases with pair count.
When to use Think Pair Share Timeline
Use this tool to schedule think, pair, and share phases with pair count.
Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
How to use Think Pair Share Timeline and understand its results
- Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
- Enter startMinute, thinkMinutes, pairMinutes, shareMinutes, participantCount using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read phaseStartMinutes, endMinute, pairCount. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| startMinute | Start minute | number | Required |
| thinkMinutes | Think minutes | number | Required |
| pairMinutes | Pair minutes | number | Required |
| shareMinutes | Share minutes | number | Required |
| participantCount | Participant count | number | Required |
Enter finite start minute, positive phase durations and safe-integer participants of at least two. Return phase starts in think/pair/share order, end minute and rounded-up pair count. Negative start offsets are allowed.
starts=[start, start+think, start+think+pair]; end=start+think+pair+share; pairs=ceil(participants/2) Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| phaseStartMinutes | Phase start minutes | list of number |
| endMinute | End minute | number |
| pairCount | Pair count | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
An odd cohort gives a rounded-up count without assigning a singleton or triad. No roster or discussion quality is assessed.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
