Expanding Review Schedule
Generate expanding review intervals with caller-defined initial gap and growth.
Description
An expanding-review schedule multiplies the gap after each review.
An expanding-review schedule multiplies the gap after each review. Rounding each current gap produces whole-day review offsets.1
Generate expanding review intervals with caller-defined initial gap and growth.
When to use Expanding Review Schedule
Use this tool to generate expanding review intervals with caller-defined initial gap and growth.
Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
How to use Expanding Review Schedule and understand its results
- Prepare the lesson timeline, roster, observations or assessment labels requested. Use consistent units and exact identifiers, then choose comparison criteria appropriate to the activity.
- Enter startDay, initialGapDays, growthFactor, reviewCount using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read reviewDays, lastGapDays. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| startDay | Start day | number | Required |
| initialGapDays | Initial gap days | number | Required |
| growthFactor | Growth factor | number | Required |
| reviewCount | Review count | number | Required |
Enter safe-integer start day, positive safe-integer initial gap, growth at least one and safe-integer reviews from one through 100. Return cumulative review days and rounded last gap; reject an accumulated day outside safe-integer range.
day_i=previousDay+round(gap_i); gap_i=initialGap×growth^i Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| reviewDays | Review days | list of number |
| lastGapDays | Last gap days | number |

} Limitations and assumptions
This schedule is not adaptive and does not skip holidays. lastGapDays is the final gap used, not the next proposed gap.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Spiral Review Intervals: Map successive curriculum revisits from caller-chosen spacing intervals. For a complementary task, use Retrieval Practice Gate: Schedule the next retrieval test from observed recall and a mastery gate.
