Description
Independent standard-uncertainty quadrature and supplied coverage factor, without a margin-status or clinical interpretation.
Laboratory records distinguish specimen identity, sampling coverage, retained quantities, processing times, image scale, and measurement uncertainty. Areas, volumes, counts, and source-support flags measure different aspects of a record. A local calculation does not identify tissue or establish diagnostic adequacy.
Independent standard-uncertainty quadrature and supplied coverage factor, without a margin-status or clinical interpretation.
When to use this tool
Use Tissue Margin Measurement Uncertainty Term when you need this specimen-record, sampling, processing-time, dimensional, or uncertainty calculation.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter measuredDistance, calibrationUncertainty, endpointUncertainty, coverageFactor. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read combinedStandard, expandedUncertainty, lower, upper. Use the output convention below.
For nonnegative calibrationUncertainty, endpointUncertainty, and coverageFactor return combinedStandard=hypot(the two uncertainties), expandedUncertainty=coverageFactor*combinedStandard, and measuredDistance plus/minus expanded uncertainty as lower and upper.1
Independent standard-uncertainty components combine through a root-sum-square relation under the appropriate propagation model. Correlated inputs require covariance terms that this two-component tool does not accept.2

} Limitations and assumptions
- Inputs must be compatible standard uncertainties in one length unit; root-sum-square combination assumes independent components. Coverage factor is supplied, not a guaranteed confidence level, and bounds do not determine a clinical margin status.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use validated laboratory procedures, traceable measurements, and authenticated specimen records for a complete assessment. Check the relevant sampling and processing assumptions before interpreting a local quantity.
