Block Section Index Offset Tool

Calculate block section index offset from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Loading tool…

Description

Return blockOffset=floor((section-referenceSection)/sectionsPerBlock) and withinBlock as the nonnegative remainder.

Laboratory records distinguish specimen identity, sampling coverage, retained quantities, processing times, image scale, and measurement uncertainty. Areas, volumes, counts, and source-support flags measure different aspects of a record. A local calculation does not identify tissue or establish diagnostic adequacy.

Return blockOffset=floor((section-referenceSection)/sectionsPerBlock) and withinBlock as the nonnegative remainder.

When to use this tool

Use Block Section Index Offset when you need this specimen-record, sampling, processing-time, dimensional, or uncertainty calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter section, referenceSection, sectionsPerBlock. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read blockOffset, withinBlock. Use the output convention below.

For nonnegative integer section and referenceSection and positive sectionsPerBlock use exact integer subtraction and Euclidean division. Return blockOffset=floor((section-referenceSection)/sectionsPerBlock) and withinBlock as the nonnegative remainder.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Inputs are section indices on one supplied numbering scheme. Negative offsets round down rather than toward zero; no tissue block identity, missing sections, or physical depth is inferred.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use validated laboratory procedures, traceable measurements, and authenticated specimen records for a complete assessment. Check the relevant sampling and processing assumptions before interpreting a local quantity.
