Description
Expand a CSS wildcard Unicode-range token into inclusive numeric bounds.
CSS token notation separates numeric values, units, Unicode ranges, and color channels. Code-point intervals differ from Unicode scalar validity, while RGB channel bytes and alpha use different scales. A token decoder can return components without parsing a stylesheet or checking all CSS semantics.
Expand a CSS wildcard Unicode-range token into inclusive numeric bounds.
When to use this tool
Use Css Unicode Range Wildcard Token when you need the components of the supported CSS color, range, or dimension token.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter token. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read lower, upper. Use the output convention below.
Accept a case-insensitive U+ prefix followed by zero through five hex digits and one through six trailing ? characters, with total width<=6. Replace wildcards by zeros and Fs for lower and upper and require upper<=U+10FFFF.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| token | Complete literal token in the grammar stated above. | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| lower | Inclusive numeric Unicode-range lower bound. | Required. Safe integer. |
| upper | Inclusive numeric Unicode-range upper bound; surrogate values may be included. | Required. Safe integer. |
{
"input": {
"token": "U+4??"
},
"output": {
"lower": 1024,
"upper": 1279
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- The output is an inclusive numeric code-point range and can include surrogate values. Explicit ranges without wildcards, CSS token context, and font coverage are not handled.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a CSS parser for escapes, identifiers, token boundaries, and complete stylesheet grammar. Apply appropriate color or Unicode interpretation only after checking the intended value model.
