Research Method Source Gap Tool

Calculate research method source gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Return methodFieldsCount, missingSourceFields for exact empty IDs, and unverifiedSourceFields for nonempty IDs absent from verifiableSourceIds.

Evidence review distinguishes reporting completeness, source identity, timing, comparator descriptions, and the validity of a clinical claim. Matching metadata or calculating an interval cannot establish study quality or treatment efficacy. Measurement and protocol conventions need to remain explicit before records are compared.

Return methodFieldsCount, missingSourceFields for exact empty IDs, and unverifiedSourceFields for nonempty IDs absent from verifiableSourceIds.

When to use this tool

Use Research Method Source Gap when you need this specific evidence-record, measurement, interval, comparator, or protocol check.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter methodFields, suppliedSourceIds, verifiableSourceIds. Keep parallel arrays aligned. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read methodFieldsCount, missingSourceFields, unverifiedSourceFields. Use the output convention below.

Require unique methodFields aligned with suppliedSourceIds. Return methodFieldsCount, missingSourceFields for exact empty IDs, and unverifiedSourceFields for nonempty IDs absent from verifiableSourceIds.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • Whitespace-only IDs count as nonempty. The verification list is supplied rather than checked against publications; presence does not establish reproducibility, source quality, or effectiveness of the described method.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a substantive source and study appraisal for clinical claims. Verify methods, preregistration, reporting, comparator conditions, and measurement validity beyond matching labels or calculated completeness.
