Description
Bench mean force/effective-area pressure, excluding local pressure distribution or tissue tolerance.
Orthopedic bench and imaging records combine force, displacement, geometric dimensions, coordinate frames, weights, and reference measurements. An ideal material term or dimensional margin depends on its model and units. It does not by itself establish implant compatibility, tissue behavior, or safe clinical loading.
Bench mean force/effective-area pressure, excluding local pressure distribution or tissue tolerance.
When to use this tool
Use Orthosis Bench Pressure Area Factor when you need this bench, geometry, reference, score-denominator, or measurement term from supplied data.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter appliedForce, contactArea, participatingFraction. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read effectiveArea, meanPressure. Use the output convention below.
For nonnegative appliedForce, positive contactArea, and participatingFraction in (0,1] return effectiveArea=contactArea*participatingFraction and meanPressure=appliedForce/effectiveArea.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| appliedForce | Applied Force | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| contactArea | Contact Area | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| participatingFraction | Positive fraction of contactArea used as the mean-pressure denominator. | Required. Finite number; maximum 1; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| effectiveArea | Effective Area | Required. Finite number. |
| meanPressure | Mean Pressure | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Force and area units determine pressure, such as N/mm^2 for N and mm. A uniform mean over supplied area omits local peaks, tissue response, device fit, and clinical safety.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a complete material, imaging, or assessment model for the intended question. Verify measurement units, calibration, load conditions, geometry, missingness, and reference assumptions before combining terms.
