Description
Ideal central three-point bending of a rectangular phantom beam, not a bone strength or implant safety assessment.
Orthopedic bench and imaging records combine force, displacement, geometric dimensions, coordinate frames, weights, and reference measurements. An ideal material term or dimensional margin depends on its model and units. It does not by itself establish implant compatibility, tissue behavior, or safe clinical loading.

When to use this tool
Use Bone Phantom Bending Stress Term when you need this bench, geometry, reference, score-denominator, or measurement term from supplied data.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter force, span, width, thickness. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read moment, sectionModulus, flexuralStress. Use the output convention below.
For nonnegative span and positive width and thickness return moment=force*span/4, sectionModulus=width*thickness^2/6, and flexuralStress=3*force*span/(2*width*thickness^2).1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| force | Signed force in the chosen unit and reference direction. | Required. Finite number. |
| span | Coordinate span under the stated endpoint policy. | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| width | Width | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| thickness | Thickness | Required. Finite number; strictly above 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| moment | Moment | Required. Finite number. |
| sectionModulus | Rectangular section modulus, length^3. | Required. Finite number. |
| flexuralStress | Signed flexural stress, force per length^2. | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- Force may be signed. Use one length unit: N and mm give N*mm moment, mm^3 section modulus, and N/mm^2 stress. This ideal central-load three-point rectangular-beam term does not assess an actual bone's strength or safe loading.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Signed zero is exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use a complete material, imaging, or assessment model for the intended question. Verify measurement units, calibration, load conditions, geometry, missingness, and reference assumptions before combining terms.
