Scan Model Unit Closure Gap Tool

Calculate scan model unit closure gap from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

For nonnegative scanDistance and modelDistance and positive suppliedModelPerScanUnit return convertedScanDistance=scanDistance*factor and closureGap=modelDistance-convertedScanDistance.

Oral laboratory and research records use specimen labels, model coordinates, material quantities, event times, and device identifiers. A matching label or dimensional clearance answers a narrower question than verified anatomy, traceability, or clinical suitability. Source identity, reference frames, and measurement units must remain explicit.

For nonnegative scanDistance and modelDistance and positive suppliedModelPerScanUnit return convertedScanDistance=scanDistance*factor and closureGap=modelDistance-convertedScanDistance.

When to use this tool

Use Scan Model Unit Closure Gap when you need this specimen-record, device-label, timing, material, or model-geometry check.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter scanDistance, suppliedModelPerScanUnit, modelDistance. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read convertedScanDistance, closureGap. Use the output convention below.

For nonnegative scanDistance and modelDistance and positive suppliedModelPerScanUnit return convertedScanDistance=scanDistance*factor and closureGap=modelDistance-convertedScanDistance.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • The factor is model length units per scan unit. The signed model-minus-converted gap does not estimate calibration, register a scan, or validate anatomical or clinical accuracy.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use authenticated records and the intended laboratory or measurement protocol for the full task. Verify source labels, coordinate frames, calibration, and the limits of the supplied physical model.
