Description
Sum nonnegative personMonthExposures and require a positive total.
Person-time adds each participant's exposure before dividing event counts by that exposure. A person-month is a denominator contribution rather than a count of distinct people.
Sum nonnegative personMonthExposures and require a positive total.
When to use this tool
Use Nephrology Research Person Month Term when you need a research event rate on an explicit person-time basis.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter personMonthExposures, events, monthsPerYear. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read totalPersonMonths, personYears, eventsPerPersonYear. Use the output convention below.
Sum nonnegative personMonthExposures and require a positive total. Divide by monthsPerYear for personYears and calculate events × monthsPerYear / totalPersonMonths.1

| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| totalPersonMonths | Total Person Months | Required. Finite number. |
| personYears | Person Years | Required. Finite number. |
| eventsPerPersonYear | Events Per Person Year | Required. Finite number. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- This is an aggregate research rate without confidence intervals, recurrent-event modeling, or population adjustment.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use participant-level follow-up and an appropriate statistical model for censoring, recurrent events, and uncertainty.
