Description
Divide recordedVolume by a positive total, otherwise return share zero and defined false.
A share divides an included amount by a declared total. An empty total is mathematically different from an observed zero share and may require an explicit availability flag.
Divide recordedVolume by a positive total, otherwise return share zero and defined false.
When to use this tool
Use Research Feed Volume Share when you need a proportion with a clearly defined denominator.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter recordedVolume, totalRecordedVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read share, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.
Require 0 ≤ recordedVolume ≤ totalRecordedVolume. Divide recordedVolume by a positive total, otherwise return share zero and defined false.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| recordedVolume | Recorded Volume | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| totalRecordedVolume | Total Recorded Volume | Required. Finite number; minimum 0. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| share | Dimensionless fraction under the stated denominator policy. | Required. Finite number. |
| defined | Whether the accompanying numeric result has an available denominator or required inputs. | Required. Boolean. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- A zero share with defined false is a placeholder, not an observed feeding proportion.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Inspect the underlying counts or quantities and report missing-denominator cases separately when aggregating results.
