Description
Subtract offered from prepared for unoffered.
An inventory balance adds incoming amounts and subtracts outgoing amounts on one common basis. Signed residuals can reveal inconsistencies without identifying their cause.
Subtract offered from prepared for unoffered.
When to use this tool
Use Infant Diary Feed Record Volume Balance when you need to reconcile supplied amounts within a defined accounting window.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter prepared, offered, returned, spilled, uncertainLoss. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read unoffered, nominalRetained, lowerRetained, upperRetained. Use the output convention below.
Subtract offered from prepared for unoffered. Subtract returned and spilled from offered for nominalRetained and upperRetained; subtract uncertainLoss with a zero floor for lowerRetained.1

} Limitations and assumptions
- Use consistent volume units. These are diary-accounting bounds, not measured intake, absorption, or feeding advice.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Compare against independent measurements and reconcile omitted flows, measurement errors, and timing differences.
