Water Recovery

Derive water recovery from measured feed/product slurry masses and solid fractions; assumes no intervening water additions and matched streams.

Description

Slurry carries both solids and water.

Slurry carries both solids and water. Water recovery uses the water mass in a product relative to the feed water mass, rather than the total slurry masses.

The tool returns feedWaterTonnes (feed water tonnes); productWaterTonnes (product water tonnes); waterRecoveryFraction (water recovery fraction). Input measurements and model parameters are supplied by the caller; the tool computes the stated summary rather than acquiring those measurements.

When to use Water Recovery

Use Water Recovery when you already have feedSlurryTonnes, feedSolidMassFraction, productSlurryTonnes, productSolidMassFraction and want feedWaterTonnes, productWaterTonnes, waterRecoveryFraction. This is useful for checking a supplied calculation, documenting a measurement convention, or comparing observations prepared on the same basis.

How to use Water Recovery and understand its results

  1. Enter feedSlurryTonnes, feedSolidMassFraction, productSlurryTonnes, productSolidMassFraction using the field table below. Match the units, ordering and data boundaries described in the calculation.
  2. Run the tool after checking the stated bounds and matching paired observations or categories. A malformed request gives a tool error rather than a usable measurement.
  3. Read feedWaterTonnes, productWaterTonnes, waterRecoveryFraction. Use the calculation and interpretation below to distinguish amounts, ratios, signs and decision flags where applicable.
  4. Review the supplied parameters and assumptions before using the result in a report or comparing it with another observation.

productSlurryTonnesProduct slurry tonnesnumberRequired
productSolidMassFractionProduct solid mass fractionnumberRequired

Use fractions in [0,1], positive feed slurry and nonnegative product slurry. Feed water must be positive and product water may not exceed it.

water = slurryTonnes×(1−solidMassFraction); recovery = productWater/feedWater

The symbols refer to the supplied quantities or generated values described above; unit conversions and comparison boundaries follow the stated implementation.

Limitations and assumptions

The feed and product must share a balance boundary and period. External water additions, unmeasured streams and evaporation are not estimated.

Numerical inputs must be finite. The tool checks its declared input shape and calculation constraints; those checks do not verify the quality, calibration or representativeness of the supplied observations.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Pulp Solid Percentage: Express pulp solid mass percent and water/solid ratio from dry solid and water masses; not a volumetric solid fraction. Water Balance: Close site external water inventory and report makeup/excess against target; internal recirculation must not be double counted.
