Maximum Subsidence
Apply calibrated extraction, subsidence and finite-panel factors to seam thickness; no empirical table or settlement guarantee.
Description
A calibrated subsidence factor scales extracted seam thickness.
A calibrated subsidence factor scales extracted seam thickness. Extraction and finite-panel fractions further reduce the modelled maximum.
The tool returns predictedMaximumSubsidenceM (predicted maximum subsidence m). Input measurements and model parameters are supplied by the caller; the tool computes the stated summary rather than acquiring those measurements.
When to use Maximum Subsidence
Use Maximum Subsidence when you already have extractedSeamThicknessM, extractionFraction, calibratedSubsidenceFactor, finitePanelCorrectionFraction and want predictedMaximumSubsidenceM. This is useful for checking a supplied calculation, documenting a measurement convention, or comparing observations prepared on the same basis.
How to use Maximum Subsidence and understand its results
- Enter extractedSeamThicknessM, extractionFraction, calibratedSubsidenceFactor, finitePanelCorrectionFraction using the field table below. Match the units, ordering and data boundaries described in the calculation.
- Run the tool after checking the stated bounds and matching paired observations or categories. A malformed request gives a tool error rather than a usable measurement.
- Read predictedMaximumSubsidenceM. Use the calculation and interpretation below to distinguish amounts, ratios, signs and decision flags where applicable.
- Review the supplied parameters and assumptions before using the result in a report or comparing it with another observation.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type and bounds | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| extractedSeamThicknessM | Extracted seam thickness m | number | Required |
| extractionFraction | Extraction fraction | number | Required |
| calibratedSubsidenceFactor | Calibrated subsidence factor | number | Required |
| finitePanelCorrectionFraction | Finite panel correction fraction | number | Required |
Require nonnegative thickness and each multiplier in [0,1]. Zero in any factor gives zero predicted subsidence.
maximum = thickness×extractionFraction×subsidenceFactor×panelCorrection The symbols refer to the supplied quantities or generated values described above; unit conversions and comparison boundaries follow the stated implementation.

Factors are supplied rather than fitted. Time evolution, strata behavior and local discontinuities are not simulated.
Numerical inputs must be finite. The tool checks its declared input shape and calculation constraints; those checks do not verify the quality, calibration or representativeness of the supplied observations.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Subsidence Trough Width: Estimate geometric influence envelope from panel width, depth and caller angle from vertical; does not infer geology or Gaussian trough scale. Subsidence Tilt: Evaluate spatial derivative of supplied downward-positive Gaussian trough; distinct from horizontal strain and excludes building response.
