Longwall Face Advance Rate
Infer face advance from matched recovered coal tonnage and geometry; assumes undiluted production.
Description
Face advance relates a recovered coal production mass to the volume swept by a longwall face.
Face advance relates a recovered coal production mass to the volume swept by a longwall face. Face length, seam height, density and recovery convert tonnes per day into metres per day.1
The tool returns faceAdvanceMetersPerDay. The computation uses supplied observations and parameters rather than acquiring measurements.
When to use Longwall Face Advance Rate
Use this for the following task: Infer face advance from matched recovered coal tonnage and geometry; assumes undiluted production. Prepare observations and calibration parameters on the same unit and reporting basis.
How to use Longwall Face Advance Rate and understand its results
- Prepare the measured quantities and supplied model parameters. Match the units and align paired lists before calculating.
- Enter dailyProducedTonnes, faceLengthM, seamHeightM, coalDensityTonnesPerM3, coalRecoveryFraction according to the field table, then run the tool.
- Read faceAdvanceMetersPerDay. Use the calculation below to interpret the selected mean or the model’s signs, units and comparison flags.
- Review the supplied assumptions and calibration before comparing or reporting the result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type and bounds | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| dailyProducedTonnes | Daily produced tonnes | number | Required |
| faceLengthM | Face length m | number | Required |
| seamHeightM | Seam height m | number | Required |
| coalDensityTonnesPerM3 | Coal density tonnes per m3 | number | Required |
| coalRecoveryFraction | Coal recovery fraction | number | Required |
Use nonnegative daily production, positive geometry and density, and a recovery fraction in (0,1]. Divide by recovered tonnes per metre of advance.
advance m/day = daily tonnes/(face length×seam height×density×recovery) The symbols and boundary conditions refer to the supplied fields and the implementation described above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |

} Limitations and assumptions
The mass must correspond to the supplied face and period and be undiluted recovered coal. No machine availability, cycle time or scheduling model is included.
Numerical inputs must be finite. Input-shape and calculation checks do not establish measurement quality or the validity of a supplied calibration.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Choose Metal Content when you need its operation: Calculate contained and recovered metal across dry-tonnage lots with grades in g/t; caller recovery fractions do not establish reserves or payable-metal terms. Choose Mine Life for the complementary operation: Schedule inventory against changing annual capacities and interpolate exhaustion year; insufficient horizons return censored errors.
