Mine Life
Schedule inventory against changing annual capacities and interpolate exhaustion year; insufficient horizons return censored errors.
Description
Mine life under a capacity schedule ends when cumulative processing exhausts recoverable ore.
Mine life under a capacity schedule ends when cumulative processing exhausts recoverable ore. The final year can be represented by a fraction of that year’s capacity.
The tool returns oreProcessedTonnesByYear (ore processed tonnes by year); exhaustionYearFraction (exhaustion year fraction). Input measurements and model parameters are supplied by the caller; the tool computes the stated summary rather than acquiring those measurements.
When to use Mine Life
Use Mine Life when you already have recoverableOreTonnes, annualCapacitiesTonnes and want oreProcessedTonnesByYear, exhaustionYearFraction. This is useful for checking a supplied calculation, documenting a measurement convention, or comparing observations prepared on the same basis.
How to use Mine Life and understand its results
- Enter recoverableOreTonnes, annualCapacitiesTonnes using the field table below. Match the units, ordering and data boundaries described in the calculation.
- Run the tool after checking the stated bounds and matching paired observations or categories. A malformed request gives a tool error rather than a usable measurement.
- Read oreProcessedTonnesByYear, exhaustionYearFraction. Use the calculation and interpretation below to distinguish amounts, ratios, signs and decision flags where applicable.
- Review the supplied parameters and assumptions before using the result in a report or comparing it with another observation.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type and bounds | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| recoverableOreTonnes | Recoverable ore tonnes | number | Required |
| annualCapacitiesTonnes | Annual capacities tonnes | list of number | Required |
Use positive recoverable ore and a nonempty nonnegative annual-capacity list. Process the lesser of remaining ore and capacity each year, stopping at exhaustion.
lifeYears = fullYearsBeforeExhaustion + remainingOre/finalYearCapacity The symbols refer to the supplied quantities or generated values described above; unit conversions and comparison boundaries follow the stated implementation.

Within-year capacity is assumed uniform. A horizon that does not exhaust ore is rejected as right-censored rather than extrapolated.
Numerical inputs must be finite. The tool checks its declared input shape and calculation constraints; those checks do not verify the quality, calibration or representativeness of the supplied observations.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Ore Tonnage: Sum block ore tonnage from bank volumes, densities and modeled ore fractions; no resource classification or geological continuity is inferred. Stripping Schedule: Apply prestripped waste credit sequentially to fixed ore/stripping schedule and screen capacities; does not optimize precedences or silently reschedule.
Methodological background: Surface Mining Technology: stripping ratios and pit layouts.1
