Description
Calculate (blockIndex - origin) × linesPerBlock + lineWithinBlock using exact intermediate integers.
A global index combines a block location with a position inside that block. Zero-based and one-based origins must be carried consistently through the conversion.
Calculate (blockIndex - origin) × linesPerBlock + lineWithinBlock using exact intermediate integers.
When to use this tool
Use Public Memorial Line Number when you need an explicit block-to-global index conversion.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter blockIndex, linesPerBlock, lineWithinBlock, origin. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read lineNumber. Use the output convention below.
Require origin zero or one and valid block and within-block indices. Calculate (blockIndex - origin) × linesPerBlock + lineWithinBlock using exact intermediate integers.1
| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| blockIndex | Block Index | Required. Safe integer. |
| linesPerBlock | Lines Per Block | Required. Safe integer; minimum 1. |
| lineWithinBlock | Line Within Block | Required. Safe integer. |
| origin | Origin | Required. Safe integer. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| lineNumber | Line Number | Required. Safe integer. |

} Limitations and assumptions
- The final result is numeric and must satisfy the output contract; this does not locate or verify an actual memorial record.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Compare sample positions against the source layout and preserve its declared index origin.
