Historic Logistics Load Share Tool

Compute a supplied historical archive load share without planning operational logistics.

Description

Require positive totalMass and itemMass between zero and totalMass; return itemMass / totalMass.

A share divides an included amount by a declared total. An empty total is mathematically different from an observed zero share and may require an explicit availability flag.

Require positive totalMass and itemMass between zero and totalMass; return itemMass / totalMass.

When to use this tool

Use Historic Logistics Load Share when you need a proportion with a clearly defined denominator.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter itemMass, totalMass. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read share. Use the output convention below.

Require positive totalMass and itemMass between zero and totalMass; return itemMass / totalMass.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
itemMassItem MassRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
totalMassTotal MassRequired. Finite number; strictly above 0.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Use matching mass units; the share alone does not describe load distribution or operational capacity.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the underlying counts or quantities and report missing-denominator cases separately when aggregating results.
