Description

Add nonnegative gapWidths to missingWidth, then add retainedWidth for reconstructedWidth.

A share divides an included amount by a declared total. An empty total is mathematically different from an observed zero share and may require an explicit availability flag.

Add nonnegative gapWidths to missingWidth, then add retainedWidth for reconstructedWidth.

When to use this tool

Use Inscription Lacuna Width Ratio when you need a proportion with a clearly defined denominator.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter gapWidths, retainedWidth. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read missingWidth, reconstructedWidth, missingShare, defined. Inspect defined before interpreting the associated values.

Add nonnegative gapWidths to missingWidth, then add retainedWidth for reconstructedWidth. Divide missing by reconstructed width when positive.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • An empty total returns missingShare zero and defined false; reconstructed width is supplied geometric accounting, not recovered text.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Inspect the underlying counts or quantities and report missing-denominator cases separately when aggregating results.
