Description
Subtract backgroundCount from observedCount, divide by recoveryFraction in (0, 1], and divide again by positive originalVolume for perVolume.
Blank subtraction and recovery correction change a measured count's numerator before volume normalization. A negative corrected value can reveal measurement noise or an incompatible correction.
Subtract backgroundCount from observedCount, divide by recoveryFraction in (0, 1], and divide again by positive originalVolume for perVolume.
When to use this tool
Use Microbial Count Recovery Supplied Factor when you need a supplied assay recovery or volume-normalization term.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter observedCount, backgroundCount, recoveryFraction, originalVolume. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read correctedCount, recoveryAdjusted, perVolume. Use the output convention below.

} Limitations and assumptions
- Negative background-corrected values are retained; recovery is supplied rather than estimated and no viability or diagnostic claim is made.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
- Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.
