Lab Plate Unused Well Budget Term Tool

Plate-capacity arithmetic from explicit counts, without an experimental assay layout recommendation.

Description

Count rows × columns wells, reserve controls + standards, and require samples × replicates sample wells.

Capacity accounting divides available indivisible units into complete groups and a remainder. Aggregate capacity can hide layout, scheduling, or item-compatibility constraints.

Count rows × columns wells, reserve controls + standards, and require samples × replicates sample wells.

When to use this tool

Use Lab Plate Unused Well Budget Term when you need a bounded kit, seat, or well-capacity calculation.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter rows, columns, controls, standards, samples, replicates. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read totalWells, reservedWells, requiredSampleWells, remaining, fits. Inspect fits before interpreting the associated values.

Count rows × columns wells, reserve controls + standards, and require samples × replicates sample wells. Return signed remaining and an inclusive fits flag.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • This aggregates wells without plate layout, edge effects, pipetting constraints, or experimental-design validation.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Check the actual layout and item requirements before treating aggregate spare capacity as usable capacity.
