SAM SAH Ratio

Screen methylation potential with a supplied SAM/SAH cutoff.

Description

SAM/SAH ratio is a supplied-metabolite composition indicator for methylation-context screening.

SAM/SAH ratio is a supplied-metabolite composition indicator for methylation-context screening. A threshold comparison does not directly measure methylation flux.1

Screen methylation potential with a supplied SAM/SAH cutoff.

When to use SAM SAH Ratio

Use this tool to screen methylation potential with a supplied SAM/SAH cutoff.

Prepare the measured profile, formula counts, upstream model outputs or caller-defined reference criteria requested. Keep paired entries aligned and units, sample basis and preprocessing consistent.

How to use SAM SAH Ratio and understand its results

  1. Prepare the measured profile, formula counts, upstream model outputs or caller-defined reference criteria requested. Keep paired entries aligned and units, sample basis and preprocessing consistent.
  2. Enter sam, sah, minimumRatio using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read methylationPotentialRatio, passes. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Enter nonnegative SAM, positive SAH and a finite minimum on a compatible amount basis. Return ratio and inclusive pass flag.

ratio=SAM/SAH; passes=ratio≥minimum

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The minimum can be signed and is not an embedded biological standard. Compartment, kinetics and enzyme activity are not modeled.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Acetylcoa Coa Ratio: Calculate acetyl-CoA to free-CoA abundance ratio and acylated share. For a complementary task, use Adenylate Energy Charge: Calculate adenylate energy charge from ATP, ADP, and AMP.
