DIA Window Planner

Partition a DIA m/z span into contiguous isolation windows.

Description

DIA window planning partitions a supplied m/z span into contiguous intervals.

DIA window planning partitions a supplied m/z span into contiguous intervals. The final interval is shortened when the span is not a width multiple.1

Partition a DIA m/z span into contiguous isolation windows.

When to use DIA Window Planner

Use this tool to partition a DIA m/z span into contiguous isolation windows.

Prepare the measured profile, formula counts, upstream model outputs or caller-defined reference criteria requested. Keep paired entries aligned and units, sample basis and preprocessing consistent.

How to use DIA Window Planner and understand its results

  1. Prepare the measured profile, formula counts, upstream model outputs or caller-defined reference criteria requested. Keep paired entries aligned and units, sample basis and preprocessing consistent.
  2. Enter minMz, maxMz, windowWidthMz using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read windowStartsMz, windowEndsMz, windowCount. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
minMzMin mznumberRequired
maxMzMax mznumberRequired
windowWidthMzWindow width mznumberRequired

Enter nonnegative minimum, greater maximum and positive width; require count≤10000. Return aligned start/end arrays and count, truncating the final upper edge to maximum.

count=ceil((maximum−minimum)/width)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Output fieldMeaningValue type
windowStartsMzWindow starts mzlist of number
windowEndsMzWindow ends mzlist of number
windowCountWindow countnumber

Limitations and assumptions

No overlapping windows, variable density, instrument limits or duty-cycle optimization are included.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use DDA Cycle Budget: Calculate top-N DDA scan-cycle time and remaining budget. For a complementary task, use XIC Mass Window: Plan an extracted-ion m/z window from target mass and ppm tolerance.
