Family Systems Genogram Complexity Calculator

Actual independently annotated simple undirected genogram graph nodes/unique edges, density 2E/N(N−1). Not family dysfunction, psychological complexity diagnosis, directed parentage semantics or confidential identity inference.

Description

A genogram graph records identified people and independently annotated relationships.

A genogram graph records identified people and independently annotated relationships.1

Simple graph density is a structural count rather than a measure of family functioning.

When to use Family Systems Genogram Complexity Calculator

Use this tool to calculate or review the supplied observations under the stated rules. Establish the planning or observation scope, units, item definitions and applicable caller reference, quotation or instrument key.

How to use Family Systems Genogram Complexity Calculator and understand its results

  1. Establish the planning or observation scope, units, item definitions and applicable caller reference, quotation or instrument key.
  2. Enter actualGenogramNodeIds, actualIndependentlyAnnotatedEdgeEndpointIndices, using the field meanings and rules below, then run the tool.
  3. Read result.observedIdentifiedPersonCount, result.observedUniqueUndirectedRelationCount, result.conditionalSimpleGraphDensity. Use the units and sign conventions below.
  4. Correct any reported input issue and run again. Before using a successful result, check the stated units, signs, reference scope and observation coverage.
Input fieldMeaningValue typeRequirement
actualGenogramNodeIdsActual genogram node idslist of stringRequired
actualIndependentlyAnnotatedEdgeEndpointIndicesActual independently annotated edge endpoint indicesnumeric matrixRequired

Require at least two unique nonblank person IDs and a matrix of undirected edge pairs. Each pair must contain exactly two integer node indices within 0–n−1; reject self-loops and duplicate undirected edges, including reversed duplicates. Count nodes and edges, then return 2×edges/(n×(n−1)). An empty edge list yields zero density. Relationship meanings and completeness are supplied independently.

simpleGraphDensity=2×edgeCount/(nodeCount×(nodeCount−1))

Use the matching field units and the exact boundary, ordering and reference rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The result describes the supplied planning records, observations or item rubric. It does not retrieve current quotations, validate a relationship instrument, infer personal feelings or predict relationship outcomes.

Missing required fields, unknown fields, wrong types and violated rules return input issues. Numeric values and outputs must be finite. Lists and matrices must be dense, without missing cells. Numeric lists allow at most 10000 entries; ordinary string lists allow at most 128 strings of 128 UTF-16 units each; numeric matrices allow at most 128 rows and 128 columns, subject to narrower requirements above. Extremely large composite outputs are rejected.

Alternative or Complementary methods

For a related step, use Relationship Duration Years Months Calculator: Calendar relationship duration can separate completed years, additional months and remaining days. For a complementary comparison, use Relationship Duration Days Calculator: Elapsed relationship days compare independently established calendar endpoints.
