Task Reopened Work Budget Delta Tool

Calculate task reopened work budget delta from explicit caller-supplied inputs.

Description

Use max(0, originalBudget - consumed) plus reopenedWork for requiredRemaining.

Capacity accounting compares available supply with commitments, reservations, or demand. Negative residuals can expose overload while zero capacity requires a distinct undefined utilization state.

Use max(0, originalBudget - consumed) plus reopenedWork for requiredRemaining.

When to use this tool

Use Task Reopened Work Budget Delta when you need a transparent resource or workload capacity term.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter originalBudget, consumed, reopenedWork, remainingAllocation. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read requiredRemaining, allocationGap. Use the output convention below.

Use max(0, originalBudget - consumed) plus reopenedWork for requiredRemaining. Subtract that requirement from remainingAllocation for allocationGap.1

Limitations and assumptions

  • All values must share a budget or effort unit; prior overspend is not added again and future work is caller estimated.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Validate calendars, skill constraints, and concurrent demand with the actual resource plan.
