Description

Subtract nonnegative spent and committedUnspent from nonnegative budget for uncommittedBalance.

A budget separates amounts already spent, amounts committed but unpaid, and funds still uncommitted. Subtracting those components describes the supplied accounting snapshot; it does not determine whether the spending is authorized or sufficient.

Subtract nonnegative spent and committedUnspent from nonnegative budget for uncommittedBalance.

When to use this tool

Use Budget Commitment Remaining Balance when you need a transparent remaining-budget component from supplied amounts.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter budget, spent, committedUnspent. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read uncommittedBalance. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Spent and commitments must be disjoint on one currency basis; negative balance is retained and ledger completeness or budget authority is not verified.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Reconcile the complete dated ledger and applicable spending restrictions before making a budget decision.
