Catalog Title Nonfiling Character Cut Tool

Drop an explicit count of Unicode code points from the start of a catalog title, preserving remaining punctuation and case.

Description

Split title into Unicode code points and remove the first nonfilingCharacters, returning sortTitle and removed separately.

A visible character can contain multiple Unicode code points, and equivalent letters may have composed or decomposed representations. Mark counts differ from grapheme counts or linguistic correctness.

When to use this tool

Use Catalog Title Nonfiling Character Cut when you need a narrowly defined Unicode mark or delimiter check.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter title, nonfilingCharacters. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read sortTitle, removed. Use the output convention below.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Counts are code points rather than grapheme clusters; the tool does not determine how many characters an article should contribute.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Unicode normalization and grapheme-aware comparison where visual equivalence or text editing behavior matters.
