Description
Optionally apply JavaScript lowercase, then NFD normalization and removal of all Unicode marks to form key.
A visible character can contain multiple Unicode code points, and equivalent letters may have composed or decomposed representations. Mark counts differ from grapheme counts or linguistic correctness.
Optionally apply JavaScript lowercase, then NFD normalization and removal of all Unicode marks to form key.
When to use this tool
Use Public Place Name Accent Key when you need a narrowly defined Unicode mark or delimiter check.
How to use the tool and how it works
- Enter name, caseFold. Use the units and conventions below.
- Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
- Read key. Use the output convention below.

| Input field | Meaning and units | Accepted input |
|---|---|---|
| name | Name | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
| caseFold | Apply JavaScript lowercase before NFD mark removal; this flag is not full Unicode case folding. | Required. Boolean. |
| Output field | Interpretation | Returned shape |
|---|---|---|
| key | JSON-array serialization of the stated identifying fields, preserving exact strings. | Required. Text; maximum UTF-16 length 8192. |
{
"input": {
"name": "Bogotá",
"caseFold": true
},
"output": {
"key": "bogota"
}
} Limitations and assumptions
- This lossy key can collide for distinct place names; the caseFold flag performs lowercase conversion rather than full Unicode case folding.
- Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Unicode normalization and grapheme-aware comparison where visual equivalence or text editing behavior matters.
