Volume-Bragg Bandpass Check
Check whether a signal lies inside a volume-Bragg grating passband.
Description
A symmetric passband check compares wavelength detuning with half the specified full width.
A symmetric passband check compares wavelength detuning with half the specified full width. Edge margin is positive inside the interval.1
Check whether a signal lies inside a volume-Bragg grating passband.
When to use Volume-Bragg Bandpass Check
Use this tool to check whether a signal lies inside a volume-Bragg grating passband.
Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
How to use Volume-Bragg Bandpass Check and understand its results
- Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
- Enter gratingCenterNanometers, fullWidthNanometers, signalWavelengthNanometers using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read detuningNanometers, edgeMarginNanometers, withinPassband. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| gratingCenterNanometers | Grating center wavelength (nm) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| fullWidthNanometers | Full-width passband (nm) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| signalWavelengthNanometers | Signal wavelength (nm) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
Enter nonnegative center, full width and signal wavelength in nm. Return detuning, signed margin and inclusive in-band flag. Zero width admits only the center.
detuning=|signal−center|; margin=width/2−detuning Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| detuningNanometers | Absolute detuning (nm) | number; minimum: 0 |
| edgeMarginNanometers | Passband edge margin (nm) | number |
| withinPassband | Within passband | boolean |

} Limitations and assumptions
No actual grating transmission curve, incidence dependence or wavelength positivity beyond schema bounds is established.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use TDFA Band Overlap: Calculate overlap between TDFA gain and a requested signal band. For a complementary task, use NOPA Bandwidth Overlap: Calculate spectral overlap between a NOPA seed and gain window.
