Third-Harmonic Output
Estimate cubic third-harmonic output and cap it at input power.
Description
An undepleted third-harmonic estimate scales with the cube of fundamental power.
An undepleted third-harmonic estimate scales with the cube of fundamental power. A hard input-power cap provides a separate energy-limited estimate.1
Estimate cubic third-harmonic output and cap it at input power.
When to use Third-Harmonic Output
Use this tool to estimate cubic third-harmonic output and cap it at input power.
Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
How to use Third-Harmonic Output and understand its results
- Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
- Enter fundamentalPowerWatts, cubicConversionCoefficientPerW2 using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read undepletedThirdHarmonicWatts, energyLimitedThirdHarmonicWatts. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| fundamentalPowerWatts | Fundamental power (W) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| cubicConversionCoefficientPerW2 | Cubic conversion coefficient (1/W²) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
Enter nonnegative power and coefficient in W⁻². Return both powers.
uncapped=C P³; capped=min(uncapped,P) Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| undepletedThirdHarmonicWatts | Undepleted third-harmonic estimate (W) | number; minimum: 0 |
| energyLimitedThirdHarmonicWatts | Energy-limited third-harmonic output (W) | number; minimum: 0 |

The cap is not a pump-depletion solution. Phase matching, losses and pulse shape are absent.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use VECSEL Frequency Doubling: Calculate externally frequency-doubled VECSEL power, wavelength, and residual fundamental power. For a complementary task, use SHG Phase Match: Calculate SHG-style phase mismatch, coherence length, and normalized conversion efficiency.
