SHG Phase Match

Calculate SHG-style phase mismatch, coherence length, and normalized conversion efficiency.

Description

Three-wave phase mismatch produces a sinc-squared conversion envelope for a uniform interaction length.

Three-wave phase mismatch produces a sinc-squared conversion envelope for a uniform interaction length. Wavevector signs and frequency assignments must match the intended process.1

Calculate SHG-style phase mismatch, coherence length, and normalized conversion efficiency.

When to use SHG Phase Match

Use this tool to calculate SHG-style phase mismatch, coherence length, and normalized conversion efficiency.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use SHG Phase Match and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter pumpWavevectorPerMeter, signalWavevectorPerMeter, idlerWavevectorPerMeter, crystalLengthMeters using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read phaseMismatchPerMeter, coherenceLengthMeters, normalizedEfficiency. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
pumpWavevectorPerMeterPump wavevector (1/m)numberRequired
signalWavevectorPerMeterSignal wavevector (1/m)numberRequired
idlerWavevectorPerMeterIdler wavevector (1/m)numberRequired
crystalLengthMetersCrystal length (m)number; minimum: 0Required

Enter finite wavevectors and nonnegative length. At zero sinc argument return unity; at zero mismatch return coherence length zero as a placeholder.

Δk=ks+ki−kp; efficiency=sinc²(ΔkL/2); coherence=π/|Δk|

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

The zero coherence output does not mean zero physical coherence length at perfect matching. No refractive-index calculation, focusing or absolute efficiency is supplied.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Third-Harmonic Output: Estimate cubic third-harmonic output and cap it at input power. For a complementary task, use OPO Idler Wavelength: Calculate OPO idler wavelength from pump and signal energy conservation.
