Stealth-Dicing Pulse Spacing

Calculate stealth-dicing pulse spacing, overlap, and pulse density.

Description

Dicing pulse spacing converts translation speed and repetition rate into separation along the scan.

Dicing pulse spacing converts translation speed and repetition rate into separation along the scan. Overlap compares that spacing with a modified-zone diameter.1

Calculate stealth-dicing pulse spacing, overlap, and pulse density.

When to use Stealth-Dicing Pulse Spacing

Use this tool to calculate stealth-dicing pulse spacing, overlap, and pulse density.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use Stealth-Dicing Pulse Spacing and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter translationSpeedMmPerSecond, pulseRateHertz, modifiedZoneDiameterMicrometers using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read pulseSpacingMicrometers, pulsesPerModifiedZone, linearOverlapPercent. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
translationSpeedMmPerSecondTranslation speed (mm/s)number; minimum: 0Required
pulseRateHertzPulse rate (Hz)number; minimum: 0Required
modifiedZoneDiameterMicrometersModified-zone diameter (µm)number; minimum: 0Required

Enter positive pulse rate/zone diameter and nonnegative speed. Return spacing, pulses per zone and signed overlap. Use positive speed to keep the reciprocal pulse-density output finite.

spacing_µm=1000speed_mm/s/rate; overlap%=100(1−spacing/diameter)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Zero speed generates nonfinite pulse density and fails the output contract. No fracture mechanics or process-quality prediction is supplied.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Microdissection Pulse Overlap: Calculate pulse spacing and linear overlap for laser microdissection. For a complementary task, use Hatch Overlap: Calculate adjacent hatch overlap from effective beam diameter and hatch spacing.
