SRS Contrast

Calculate stimulated Raman loss contrast from pump-on and pump-off probe measurements.

Description

Stimulated-Raman-loss contrast compares pump-on probe signal with a pump-off reference.

Stimulated-Raman-loss contrast compares pump-on probe signal with a pump-off reference. The difference uses a loss-positive sign convention.1

Calculate stimulated Raman loss contrast from pump-on and pump-off probe measurements.

When to use SRS Contrast

Use this tool to calculate stimulated Raman loss contrast from pump-on and pump-off probe measurements.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use SRS Contrast and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter pumpOnIntensity, pumpOffIntensity using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read stimulatedRamanLoss, srsContrastPercent. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
pumpOnIntensityPump-on probe intensitynumber; minimum: 0Required
pumpOffIntensityPump-off probe intensitynumber; minimum: 0Required

Enter nonnegative on signal and positive off signal. Return signed loss and percentage; increased on signal gives negative loss.

loss=off−on; contrast%=100 loss/off

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No demodulation, concentration calibration or separation of other pump effects is performed.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use PLIF Signal Normalization: Background-correct and normalize PLIF signal by sheet energy and collection gain. For a complementary task, use WMS 2f Error Signal: Resolve a wavelength-modulation 2f signal into amplitude, phase, and normalized lock error.
