SLT Dose Window Check

Calculate SLT pulse fluence and compare it with caller-supplied dose bounds.

Description

A pulse-fluence window compares pulse energy per circular spot area with two caller-supplied bounds.

A pulse-fluence window compares pulse energy per circular spot area with two caller-supplied bounds. The SLT name does not supply treatment settings.1

Calculate SLT pulse fluence and compare it with caller-supplied dose bounds.

When to use SLT Dose Window Check

Use this tool to calculate SLT pulse fluence and compare it with caller-supplied dose bounds.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use SLT Dose Window Check and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter pulseEnergyMillijoules, spotDiameterMicrometers, minimumFluenceJPerCm2, maximumFluenceJPerCm2 using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read fluenceJPerCm2, nearestBoundaryMarginJPerCm2, withinWindow. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
pulseEnergyMillijoulesPulse energy (mJ)number; minimum: 0Required
spotDiameterMicrometersSpot diameter (µm)number; minimum: 0Required
minimumFluenceJPerCm2Caller minimum fluence (J/cm²)number; minimum: 0Required
maximumFluenceJPerCm2Caller maximum fluence (J/cm²)number; minimum: 0Required

Enter nonnegative pulse energy and ordered nonnegative bounds with positive spot diameter. Return fluence, minimum signed distance to either boundary and inclusive window flag.

area_cm²=π(d_µm×1e−4/2)²; fluence=energy_mJ/1000/area

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Assumes uniform circular-area fluence. No patient assessment, treatment recommendation or device-specific clinical limits are included.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Photobiomodulation Dose: Calculate delivered energy and fluence for photobiomodulation. For a complementary task, use PDT Light Dose: Calculate PDT light dose and check a caller-supplied drug-to-light interval.
