PDT Light Dose

Calculate PDT light dose and check a caller-supplied drug-to-light interval.

Description

PDT light dose multiplies irradiance by illumination time.

PDT light dose multiplies irradiance by illumination time. A separate timing gate compares a supplied drug-to-light interval with a maximum.1

Calculate PDT light dose and check a caller-supplied drug-to-light interval.

When to use PDT Light Dose

Use this tool to calculate PDT light dose and check a caller-supplied drug-to-light interval.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use PDT Light Dose and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter irradianceWPerCm2, illuminationSeconds, drugLightIntervalHours, maximumIntervalHours using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read lightDoseJPerCm2, intervalMarginHours, withinInterval. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
irradianceWPerCm2Treatment irradiance (W/cm²)number; minimum: 0Required
illuminationSecondsIllumination duration (s)number; minimum: 0Required
drugLightIntervalHoursDrug-to-light interval (h)number; minimum: 0Required
maximumIntervalHoursCaller maximum interval (h)number; minimum: 0Required

Enter nonnegative irradiance, illumination time and interval values in the specified units. Return J/cm², signed hours margin and inclusive interval≤maximum flag.

dose=irradiance×time; intervalMargin=maximum−actual

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No photosensitizer kinetics, tissue fluence, minimum interval, patient suitability or treatment recommendation is provided.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Photobiomodulation Dose: Calculate delivered energy and fluence for photobiomodulation. For a complementary task, use SLT Dose Window Check: Calculate SLT pulse fluence and compare it with caller-supplied dose bounds.
