Selective-Emitter Resistance

Calculate selective-emitter sheet resistance and compare it with a baseline.

Description

Sheet resistance relates uniform-layer resistivity to thickness.

Sheet resistance relates uniform-layer resistivity to thickness. Comparison with a baseline expresses relative reduction.1

Calculate selective-emitter sheet resistance and compare it with a baseline.

When to use Selective-Emitter Resistance

Use this tool to calculate selective-emitter sheet resistance and compare it with a baseline.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use Selective-Emitter Resistance and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter emitterResistivityOhmMeters, emitterThicknessMeters, baselineSheetResistanceOhmsPerSquare using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read emitterSheetResistanceOhmsPerSquare, resistanceRatio, reductionPercent. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
emitterResistivityOhmMetersEmitter resistivity (Ω·m)number; minimum: 0Required
emitterThicknessMetersEmitter thickness (m)number; minimum: 0Required
baselineSheetResistanceOhmsPerSquareBaseline sheet resistance (Ω/□)number; minimum: 0Required

Enter nonnegative resistivity and positive thickness and baseline sheet resistance. Return sheet value, ratio and signed percentage reduction.

sheetResistance=resistivity/thickness; reduction%=100(1−sheet/baseline)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Output fieldMeaningValue type
emitterSheetResistanceOhmsPerSquareEmitter sheet resistance (Ω/□)number; minimum: 0
resistanceRatioEmitter-to-baseline resistance rationumber; minimum: 0

Limitations and assumptions

Nonuniform doping, contacts and photovoltaic performance are not modeled.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Decoy-State Intensity Score: Score supplied signal and decoy intensities from observed gains; this is not a security proof. For a complementary task, use Diode-Stack Heat Flux: Calculate diode-stack waste heat and cooled-footprint heat flux.
