SCOWA Amplifier Output
Estimate SCOWA output from small-signal gain and a supplied saturation ceiling.
Description
Small-signal amplifier gain converts dB to a power multiplier.
Small-signal amplifier gain converts dB to a power multiplier. A supplied saturation output provides a hard ceiling in this estimate.1
Estimate SCOWA output from small-signal gain and a supplied saturation ceiling.
When to use SCOWA Amplifier Output
Use this tool to estimate SCOWA output from small-signal gain and a supplied saturation ceiling.
Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
How to use SCOWA Amplifier Output and understand its results
- Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
- Enter inputPowerWatts, smallSignalGainDb, saturationOutputWatts using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read unsaturatedOutputWatts, estimatedOutputWatts, saturationLimited. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| inputPowerWatts | Input optical power (W) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| smallSignalGainDb | Small-signal gain (dB) | number | Required |
| saturationOutputWatts | Saturation output (W) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
Enter nonnegative input/ceiling and finite signed gain. Return both outputs and strict unsaturated>ceiling flag.
unsaturated=input×10^(gainDb/10); output=min(unsaturated, ceiling) Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| unsaturatedOutputWatts | Unsaturated output (W) | number; minimum: 0 |
| estimatedOutputWatts | Estimated output (W) | number; minimum: 0 |
| saturationLimited | Saturation limited | boolean |

The hard cap is not a continuous saturation model. Noise, spectral gain and dynamics are excluded.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Fiber Delivery Power Margin: Check fiber-delivery intensity and nonlinear phase against supplied limits. For a complementary task, use Ring Isolation Ratio: Calculate forward/reverse isolation in a unidirectional ring cavity.
