Raman DTS Temperature

Infer Raman-DTS temperature relative to a supplied ratio calibration.

Description

Raman-DTS temperature inference uses the anti-Stokes/Stokes ratio relative to a calibration point.

Raman-DTS temperature inference uses the anti-Stokes/Stokes ratio relative to a calibration point. A logarithmic ratio adjusts inverse temperature.1

Infer Raman-DTS temperature relative to a supplied ratio calibration.

When to use Raman DTS Temperature

Use this tool to infer Raman-DTS temperature relative to a supplied ratio calibration.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use Raman DTS Temperature and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter antiStokesToStokesRatio, referenceRatio, referenceTemperatureKelvin, ramanShiftWavenumbersPerCm using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read temperatureKelvin, temperatureChangeKelvin. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
antiStokesToStokesRatioMeasured Raman rationumber; minimum: 0Required
referenceRatioReference Raman rationumber; minimum: 0Required
referenceTemperatureKelvinReference temperature (K)number; minimum: 0Required
ramanShiftWavenumbersPerCmRaman shift (cm⁻¹)number; minimum: 0Required

Enter positive ratios, reference kelvin and Raman shift in cm⁻¹. Reject nonpositive inferred inverse temperature. Return kelvin and signed reference-temperature change.

1/T=1/Tref−(kB/(hc×100wavenumber)) ln(ratio/referenceRatio)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No attenuation correction, calibration fitting or distributed trace processing is performed.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use TEC Stability: Measure TEC temperature stability against a caller-supplied millikelvin limit. For a complementary task, use THz Complex Conductivity: Convert complex relative permittivity to complex conductivity under an exp(-iωt) convention.
