TEC Stability

Measure TEC temperature stability against a caller-supplied millikelvin limit.

Description

TEC stability summarizes a temperature record by mean, peak-to-peak span and population RMS variation.

TEC stability summarizes a temperature record by mean, peak-to-peak span and population RMS variation. Acceptance uses peak-to-peak span rather than RMS.1

Measure TEC temperature stability against a caller-supplied millikelvin limit.

When to use TEC Stability

Use this tool to measure TEC temperature stability against a caller-supplied millikelvin limit.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use TEC Stability and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter temperatureSamplesCelsius, stabilityLimitMilliKelvin using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read meanTemperatureCelsius, peakToPeakMilliKelvin, rmsVariationMilliKelvin, withinStabilityLimit. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
Input fieldMeaningValue type; see rules belowRequirement
temperatureSamplesCelsiusTemperature samples (°C)list of numberRequired
stabilityLimitMilliKelvinCaller stability limit (mK)number; minimum: 0Required

Enter nonempty finite Celsius samples and nonnegative mK limit. Return mean, both variations and inclusive span≤limit flag. A single sample has zero variation.

span_mK=1000(max−min); RMS_mK=1000 sqrt(Σ(T−mean)²/n)

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

No sampling-time requirement, controller tuning or long-term drift model is supplied.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use THz Cooling Margin: Compare a THz laser operating temperature with a supplied cooling limit. For a complementary task, use Thermal-Lens Coefficient: Calculate measured thermal-lens dioptric-power change per watt of pump-power change.
