Q-Switch Diffraction Efficiency
Calculate measured first-order acousto-optic diffraction efficiency.
Description
First-order diffraction efficiency compares measured diffracted power with incident power.
First-order diffraction efficiency compares measured diffracted power with incident power. The reported undiffracted value is the remainder.1
Calculate measured first-order acousto-optic diffraction efficiency.
When to use Q-Switch Diffraction Efficiency
Use this tool to calculate measured first-order acousto-optic diffraction efficiency.
Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
How to use Q-Switch Diffraction Efficiency and understand its results
- Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
- Enter incidentPowerWatts, firstOrderPowerWatts using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read firstOrderEfficiencyPercent, undiffractedPowerWatts. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| incidentPowerWatts | Incident optical power (W) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
| firstOrderPowerWatts | First-order optical power (W) | number; minimum: 0 | Required |
Enter positive incident power and first-order power from zero through incident. Return efficiency and remainder watts.
efficiency%=100firstOrder/incident; remainder=incident−firstOrder Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| firstOrderEfficiencyPercent | First-order efficiency (%) | number; minimum: 0; maximum: 100 |
| undiffractedPowerWatts | Other-order power (W) | number; minimum: 0 |

Absorption, other orders and scatter are grouped in the remainder; it is not a direct zero-order measurement.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.
