DFB Array Channel Spacing

Measure adjacent wavelength spacing and spacing nonuniformity in a DFB array.

Description

DFB channel-spacing analysis sorts wavelengths before comparing adjacent gaps.

DFB channel-spacing analysis sorts wavelengths before comparing adjacent gaps. Gap nonuniformity is the largest deviation from their mean.1

Measure adjacent wavelength spacing and spacing nonuniformity in a DFB array.

When to use DFB Array Channel Spacing

Use this tool to measure adjacent wavelength spacing and spacing nonuniformity in a DFB array.

Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.

How to use DFB Array Channel Spacing and understand its results

  1. Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
  2. Enter channelWavelengthsNanometers using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
  3. Read adjacentSpacingsNanometers, meanSpacingNanometers, maximumSpacingDeviationNanometers. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
  4. If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.

Enter at least two finite wavelengths. Sort a copy and return gaps, mean and maximum absolute deviation in nm. Duplicate wavelengths give zero gaps.

gaps_i=sortedλ_(i+1)−sortedλ_i; deviation=max|gap−meanGap|

Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.

Limitations and assumptions

Channel ordering and positivity are not validated. No frequency-spacing conversion or fabrication diagnosis is performed.

Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Lists are limited to 100,000 entries; the rules above may require smaller limits. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use Comb Spacing Lock: Summarize gain-switched comb spacing lock error. For a complementary task, use Flow-Cytometry Line Coverage: Match required flow-cytometry excitation lines to available lines within a supplied tolerance.
