BDFA Band Coverage
Measure BDFA gain-window coverage of a caller-supplied target band.
Description
Gain-band coverage compares a supplied BDFA interval with a requested target band.
Gain-band coverage compares a supplied BDFA interval with a requested target band. Coverage is the fraction of target width inside their intersection.1
Measure BDFA gain-window coverage of a caller-supplied target band.
When to use BDFA Band Coverage
Use this tool to measure BDFA gain-window coverage of a caller-supplied target band.
Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
How to use BDFA Band Coverage and understand its results
- Prepare the optical measurements, geometry, fitted coefficients or caller-selected thresholds requested. Confirm wavelength, radius/diameter, pulse-width, angle and unit conventions before running the calculation.
- Enter gainMinimumNanometers, gainMaximumNanometers, targetMinimumNanometers, targetMaximumNanometers using the field table and calculation rules, then run the tool.
- Read overlapNanometers, targetCoveragePercent, fullyCovered. The explanation below defines the units, signs, ordering and any flags or placeholder values.
- If the tool reports an input issue, correct the values and run it again. Apply the stated assumptions when interpreting a successfully returned result.
| Input field | Meaning | Value type; see rules below | Requirement |
|---|---|---|---|
| gainMinimumNanometers | BDFA gain minimum (nm) | number | Required |
| gainMaximumNanometers | BDFA gain maximum (nm) | number | Required |
| targetMinimumNanometers | Target band minimum (nm) | number | Required |
| targetMaximumNanometers | Target band maximum (nm) | number | Required |
Enter finite gain bounds with lower≤upper and target lower<upper. Return overlap, coverage and full-containment flag.
overlap=max(0,min(upper)−max(lower)); coverage%=100overlap/targetWidth Units, indexing, boundary conditions and exceptional cases are defined in the calculation rules above.
| Output field | Meaning | Value type |
|---|---|---|
| overlapNanometers | Band overlap (nm) | number; minimum: 0 |
| targetCoveragePercent | Target-band coverage (%) | number; minimum: 0; maximum: 100 |
| fullyCovered | Target fully covered | boolean |

} Limitations and assumptions
No bismuth-fiber gain spectrum or wavelength positivity is embedded. Touching intervals have zero overlap.
Numeric inputs must be finite. Follow the calculation-specific rules for overflow, underflow and exceptional cases. Missing required fields, extra fields, wrong value types and violations of the calculation rules are input errors. A successfully returned false flag is an evaluated outcome; its meaning is explained above.
Alternative or Complementary methods
Use Brillouin Stokes Cascade: Generate cascaded Brillouin Stokes frequencies from a pump and fixed shift. For a complementary task, use TDFA Band Overlap: Calculate overlap between TDFA gain and a requested signal band.
