Tree Crown Ground Shade Radius Inputs

Offset an explicit circular-crown radius along a supplied ground-shadow axis without predicting solar position or crown shape.

Loading tool…

Description

Calculate one-axis crown-shade bounds around a supplied horizontal offset.

Landscape geometry distinguishes plan area, depth, void fraction, grade, center spacing and nominal clearances. A horizontal-per-vertical slope is the inverse orientation of rise/run, and post counts differ from bay counts. Supplied geometric terms do not establish stability, drainage, accessibility or safe construction.

Calculate one-axis crown-shade bounds around a supplied horizontal offset.

When to use this tool

Use Tree Crown Ground Shade Radius Inputs when you already have crownRadius, suppliedHorizontalShadowOffset and need to calculate one-axis crown-shade bounds around a supplied horizontal offset.

How to use the tool and how it works

  1. Enter crownRadius, suppliedHorizontalShadowOffset. Use the units and conventions below.
  2. Run the tool. Correct any format, range, or cross-field input error before interpreting the output.
  3. Read minimumAxisCoordinate, maximumAxisCoordinate. Use the output convention below.

Require crownRadius>=0; return offset-radius and offset+radius.1

Input fieldMeaning and unitsAccepted input
crownRadiusCrown RadiusRequired. Finite number; minimum 0.
suppliedHorizontalShadowOffsetSigned one-axis offset in the same length unit as crownRadius; not derived from solar position.Required. Finite number.
Output fieldInterpretationReturned shape
minimumAxisCoordinateMinimum Axis CoordinateRequired. Finite number.
maximumAxisCoordinateMaximum Axis CoordinateRequired. Finite number.

Limitations and assumptions

  • Assumes a symmetric crown projection on one axis; no sun angle, actual shadow, canopy shape or shade suitability is modeled.
  • Inputs must satisfy both the field types and the cross-field conditions above. Invalid input causes an error; a successful false flag or documented placeholder is a different result.
  • Numeric calculations use binary floating point unless exact decimal-integer arithmetic is explicitly stated. No hidden measurement tolerance or decimal rounding is added; nonfinite or out-of-contract results are rejected. Numeric signed-zero results are exported as zero.

Alternative or Complementary methods

Use a verified site survey and complete dimensioned layout for a landscape design. Include material behavior, drainage, ground conditions and the applicable requirements when local volumes, grades or spacing calculations cannot answer the full question.
